昨夜は、この夏休みシーズン一番の混雑が予想された日だった。昨今は運賃の低価格で深夜便に離発着が集中しているサイパン空港は、通常便＋チャーター便があって帰国の空港行きからそのまま空港で到着される便を待つというスケジュールです。この夜は５便の到着と６便の出発で、それでなくても小さいサイパン空港は中も外も大混雑です。2009年からイミグレーション（入国管理）がアメリカとなりさらに厳しくなりましたが、政府にそれ相応な予算が無く入国のカウンター数が到着客の数に対応できずに、かなりの時間を待たされてしまうお客様が続出して、我々もそれに合わせて長く車両を待機させなくてはならないという悪循環を生んでいます。3時間弱で来られるサイパンに到着後に空港内で1時間から、その後ホテルに着くまでに計2時間近くかかってしまったら、安・近・短のサイパンの魅力は半減してしまう。何とも悲しい現実です。

今年の夏は震災の影響もあると思いますが、他のハワイやグアムと比べるとかなり悪いサイパンの来島者数です。観光業の収入がメインのこの島では大きな問題です。
